Pay online through BHIM UPI, net banking or a Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay debit card. Check the payment status inside your SSC login rather than trusting the bank debit message — an unreceived fee leaves the form marked incomplete and it gets rejected.
Who can apply
Educational qualification
- Passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board, on or before 7 October 2026.
- For Data Entry Operator posts in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.
Age limit
18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026. Relaxation follows the standard central government rules — 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC and ST, and the specified relaxations for PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and other reserved groups.

Posts are spread across central government ministries, departments and offices, along with constitutional bodies, statutory bodies and tribunals. The commission does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancy data for this examination, so there is no state quota to look for.

Objective multiple choice, computer based, with 0.50 marks deducted for every wrong answer. Candidates with a scribe get 80 minutes.

Each question carries 3 marks and 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer. A typing test applies to LDC and JSA posts and a data entry skill test applies to DEO posts; both are qualifying. Document verification and, where applicable, a medical examination follow.
How to apply
- Go to ssc.gov.in and complete One Time Registration if you have not already.
- Log in with your registration ID and password.
- Open the SSC CHSL 2026 application link and fill in your personal, educational and communication details.
- Upload your photograph and signature to the stated specifications, or use Aadhaar-based authentication during OTR to simplify the ID check at the centre.
- Pay the fee if it applies to you, and confirm the payment status inside your login.
- Preview the form, submit it, and save a printout.
Applications are accepted only through the SSC portal and the official mySSC mobile application. Nothing submitted through any other route is accepted. Apply several days early — the portal slows badly in the final 48 hours.
How to prepare from here
The exam date has not been announced, which means you have at least a couple of months. That is enough time to finish the syllabus properly rather than skimming it.
- Start with previous year papers. CHSL repeats its question types heavily. Ten real papers teach you more about the pattern than any syllabus PDF.
- Fix the weak chapter, not the weak subject. Chapterwise tests tell you whether the problem is percentages or time and work, which a full mock cannot.
- Move to full mocks about six weeks out, and treat the 60-minute clock as non-negotiable.
- Give General Awareness fifteen minutes a day rather than a cram week. Current affairs from the last eight to ten months carries most of the weight.

What is the last date to apply for SSC CHSL 2026?
Online applications close at 11:00 PM on 7 October 2026. The fee can be paid until 11:00 PM on 8 October 2026, and the correction window runs from 14 to 16 October 2026.
How many vacancies are there?
Approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies. The number may be revised, and post-wise and category-wise details are published separately.
When is the Tier 1 exam?
Not announced. The notification says the Tier 1 and Tier 2 schedules will be notified separately, so watch the SSC notice board.
What is the age limit?
18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026, with the usual relaxations for reserved categories.
I am waiting for my Class 12 result. Can I apply?
You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination on or before 7 October 2026. Read the eligibility clause in the notification carefully before you pay the fee.
Is there negative marking?
Yes. Tier 1 deducts 0.50 marks per wrong answer. Tier 2 deducts 1 mark per wrong answer in every scored module.
