Who can apply
Educational qualification
- Passed Class 10 (matriculation) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board or university, on or before the closing date in the notification.
Age limit
18 to 23 years on the cut-off date fixed in the notification (the 2026 notification used 1 January 2026). Relaxation follows the standard central government rules — 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC and ST, and the specified relaxations for ex-servicemen and other reserved groups.

Objective multiple choice, computer based, with 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer. The paper is offered in Hindi, English and 13 regional languages. Candidates with a scribe get 80 minutes. Marks are normalised across shifts, and the normalised score decides the final merit.

The notification lists relaxed height and chest standards for ST candidates and for candidates from hill areas and the North-East. Both tests are qualifying; a detailed medical examination and document verification follow.

How to apply
- Go to ssc.gov.in and complete One Time Registration if you have not already.
- Log in with your registration ID and password.
- Open the Constable (GD) 2027 application link and fill in your personal, educational and communication details, including state and force preferences.
- Upload your photograph and signature to the stated specifications, or use Aadhaar-based authentication during OTR to simplify the ID check at the centre.
- Pay the fee if it applies to you, and confirm the payment status inside your login.
- Preview the form, submit it, and save a printout.
Applications are accepted only through the SSC portal and the official mySSC mobile application. Apply several days early — the portal slows badly in the final 48 hours.
How to prepare from here
With the CBE tentatively three to five months away, there is time to finish the syllabus properly rather than skimming it.
- Start with previous year papers. GD repeats its question types heavily. Ten real shifts teach you more about the pattern than any syllabus PDF.
- Fix the weak part, not the weak subject. Part-wise tests tell you whether the problem is series or coding, percentage or time and work.
- Move to full mocks about six weeks out, and treat the 60-minute clock as non-negotiable.
- Give GK fifteen minutes a day rather than a cram week. Current affairs from the last eight to ten months carries most of the weight, with sports, awards and women achievers favoured in recent papers.
- Run three or four times a week from now so the PET is a formality.
