Why practise SSC CGL English previous year questions subject-wise?

A full 100-question SSC CGL paper is the best way to rehearse the exam, but most of your day-to-day preparation is subject-wise. That is exactly what this page is for: every shift of every year is split so that you can sit only the English Language portion — 25 questions in a strict 15-minute window, which is the sectional time SSC gives this subject in the 2026 pattern. You get the real difficulty, the real mix of topics and the real time pressure without spending an hour on the other three sections.

Because the questions are lifted from actual papers, you also see the repeat patterns SSC relies on. Attempt three or four shifts of the same year back to back and the recurring question types become obvious — those are the topics to lock down first.

Every test is free, available in both English and Hindi, and ends with the answer key, a question-by-question review and detailed solutions. Your attempted status is saved to your account, so you can track which shifts you have already covered.

How to use these English PYQ tests

  1. Start with the latest year and work backwards — the newest shifts are the closest match to the upcoming exam.
  2. Attempt with the timer on and do not pause. Finishing 25 questions in 15 minutes is the skill being tested.
  3. Review every wrong and skipped question. The solution panel shows the method and, where it exists, the shortcut trick.
  4. Note the topics you lose time on and drill them with the English chapter-wise tests, then come back and re-attempt the shift.
  5. Once your subject scores are stable, switch to the full-length PYQ papers and mock tests to practise the complete 60-minute paper.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the SSC CGL English previous year questions free?

Yes. Every English Language previous year test on this page is free to attempt online. You only need a free TrickySSC account so your score and attempted status are saved.

How many questions and how much time does each English PYQ test have?

Each Tier I test contains the 25 English Language questions of one real SSC CGL shift and runs for 15 minutes — exactly the sectional time SSC allots to this subject in the 2026 pattern. Tier II tests carry that paper's full English Language section.

Can I attempt the English PYQ tests in Hindi?

Yes. Every paper is available in both English and Hindi. Choose the language when you tap Attempt Test. The English section itself is always in English, as in the real exam.

Do the tests include solutions?

Yes. After submitting you get the answer key, a question-by-question review, and detailed solutions with tricks wherever they apply.

Will my English attempt count as attempting the full paper?

No. Subject-wise attempts are tracked separately from full-paper attempts, so you can practise a subject here and still attempt the complete 100-question paper later from the PYQ Bank.

How are marks calculated?

Tier I follows the real SSC CGL scheme: +2 for every correct answer and −0.5 for every wrong answer (unattempted questions score zero). Tier II tests use +3 / −1.

Are new papers added automatically?

Yes. The moment a new SSC CGL shift is uploaded to TrickySSC, its English Language test appears here under the matching year — no separate update is needed.
