SSC CHSL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination) is one of India's biggest government recruitment examinations for 12th-pass candidates. Conducted every year by the Staff Selection Commission, it fills clerical and data-entry posts across central government ministries, departments and offices.
Through SSC CHSL, candidates are recruited as Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and Data Entry Operator Grade 'A'. Because the minimum qualification is only Class 12, the exam attracts several lakh applicants each year, which makes cut-offs high and accuracy far more valuable than raw attempts.
The selection process runs through Tier I and Tier II, both computer-based, with a Typing Test / Data Entry Skill Test as a qualifying stage. Final merit is decided by Tier II alone.

Tier II decides the final merit in SSC CHSL. It is a single objective paper split into three sections, of which only Section I and Section II count for merit; Section III (Computer Knowledge Test and Typing Test / DEST) is qualifying in nature.

Since both merit sections carry equal weight, a weak English or General Awareness section costs exactly as much as weak Maths — balance is the whole game in CHSL Tier II.
