Quantitative Aptitude is the section that decides most SSC CGL selections. Twenty-five questions in Tier I and thirty in Tier II Paper I, all inside a locked sectional clock, means a candidate who is strong everywhere except one chapter still loses marks every single shift. How Many Maths Questions Are Asked in SSC CGL?

SSC CGL Maths Syllabus 2026 — Chapter by Chapter

Arithmetic — the highest-return block

Percentage, profit and loss, discount, interest, ratio, average, age, mixture, time and work, and time–speed–distance together account for roughly half the Tier I maths section. They also feed each other: once percentage is fluent, profit and loss, discount and interest all get faster. If you are starting chapter wise practice from zero, start here.

Advanced maths — algebra, trigonometry, geometry, mensuration

This block is where most candidates lose marks and where toppers gain them. Algebraic results and trigonometric identities are pattern-based and highly repeatable, so Level 1 and Level 2 practice pays off quickly. Geometry and mensuration need formula recall plus figure reading, which is exactly what timed chapter tests train.

Number system and simplification

Short, fast-scoring and very repeatable across shifts. Divisibility rules, remainder theorem, unit digit, LCM and HCF questions can be finished in under thirty seconds each once the standard shapes are familiar — free marks you should never leave in the paper.

Data interpretation and miscellaneous

DI in Tier I is usually a small table, bar or pie set worth two to three questions, and it is largely percentage and average work in disguise. Co-ordinate geometry, probability and basic statistics appear occasionally in Tier I and more regularly in Tier II Paper I.

How to Use Chapter Wise Practice for SSC CGL Maths

1. Fix the chapter order. Percentage → profit and loss → discount → interest → ratio → average. Each one reuses the previous one, so this order cuts your learning time.
2. Attempt Level 1 without the timer the same day you finish the concept. The goal there is correctness and formula recall, not speed.
3. Move to Level 2 with the 30-minute clock on. Level 2 is real Tier I standard — this is the score that tells you whether the chapter is exam-ready.
4. Read every solution, including the ones you got right. Our solutions carry the shortcut trick alongside the full method; a right answer reached the long way is still a timing problem.
5. Keep an error notebook per chapter. If two of your last three mistakes in geometry were circle theorems, that is your next Level 3 test, not a new chapter.
6. Convert chapter strength into paper strength. Once four or five chapters are at Level 2, attempt a previous year paper, then a full mock test with sectional timing to check that the speed survives under section pressure.
