The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Constable (GD) examination to recruit General Duty constables for the Central Armed Police Forces — Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) — along with the Secretariat Security Force (SSF), Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles and, in some cycles, Sepoy in the Narcotics Control Bureau and constables in the National Investigation Agency. Because the minimum qualification is Class 10 and the vacancy count runs into tens of thousands, it is the largest uniformed-services recruitment in India by applicants.
The 2026 cycle notified 25,487 vacancies (CISF 14,595, CRPF 5,490, SSB 1,764, Assam Rifles 1,706, ITBP 1,293, BSF 616, SSF 23), held its computer-based examination from 27 April to 30 May 2026 and declared the result on 12 October 2026 with 1,97,408 candidates shortlisted for PET/PST. The next cycle, SSC GD 2027, is listed in SSC’s 2026–27 calendar with the CBE tentatively in January–March 2027.
