Venn Diagram Tests — Pick a Level and Start
Tap a level to see every test in it. Level 1 is set at real SSC CGL difficulty — start there the day you finish the concept. Level 2 is pitched above the exam, to push accuracy under pressure.
Level 1 SSC CGL Level Checking… View tests
Same difficulty as the real SSC CGL paper. Pick the Venn diagram for three classes (Mothers, Women, Doctors), pick the classes that fit a given diagram, count people from a figure of a circle, a triangle and a rectangle or square, find the number that marks a part, and two-group word problems. A steady score here means the chapter is exam-ready.
Level 2 Above SSC CGL Level Checking… View tests
Harder than the exam asks. Subtler class relations — a class inside the common part of two others, a third class cutting only the outer circle — with near-miss diagrams as options; four-shape figures with “exactly two”, “at least two” and “how many more” questions; and three-group word problems where the pair counts include those in all three.
Venn diagram questions test one skill: seeing how groups sit inside, across or apart from each other. In the classic SSC form you get three classes — say mothers, women and doctors — and pick the picture that shows them correctly. Compare the classes two at a time: one inside the other, partly overlapping, or nothing in common. Three pairs, one picture.
The figure form gives you overlapping shapes with numbers in each part and asks how many people fit a condition. The rule never changes: a number counts only if its part is inside every shape named and outside every shape excluded. Word problems use the same idea with the formula n(A or B) = n(A) + n(B) − n(both).
How Many Venn Diagram Questions Are Asked in SSC CGL?
Venn diagram is a regular member of the General Intelligence section — usually one question in a Tier I shift, and it turns up in CHSL, MTS and Tier II as well. The forms it takes are listed below, most common first.
| Form of the question | How often |
|---|---|
| Three classes — pick the diagram that represents them | The most common form |
| A figure of circle, triangle, rectangle or square with numbers — “how many…?” | Common |
| A figure with numbered parts — “which number represents…?” | Regular |
| A diagram given — pick the set of classes it fits | Occasional |
| Two- or three-group word problems (neither, both, exactly one) | Occasional |
Statements with All, Some and No (“which conclusion follows”) are practised in the separate Syllogism chapter.
What You Will Practice in the Venn Diagram Chapter
Logical Venn diagrams
- Three classes — pick the one diagram that shows all three relations
- One diagram — pick the set of classes it represents
- Classes from people, animals, plants, places, numbers, shapes, objects and science
Figure-based questions
- Counting people in a part: “play cricket and hockey but not chess”
- Totals, “exactly two”, “at least two” and “how many more” (Level 2)
- Which number marks the part that fits a condition
- Three-shape figures at Level 1, four-shape figures at Level 2
Set word problems
- Two groups: neither, both, only one, exactly one (Level 1)
- Three groups: none, exactly one, exactly two, at least two, all three (Level 2)
The eleven pictures you need to know
Every three-class question in the tests matches exactly one of these. Learn to name the relation of each pair and the picture follows.
The three mistakes that cost the most marks
- Missing a partial overlap. Women and doctors overlap: some women are doctors, and many doctors are men. Drawing one inside the other is wrong.
- Letting circles touch when nothing is shared. No cobra lives in the sea, so in Cobras, Snakes, Sea animals the sea-animal circle cuts the snake circle but stays away from the cobra circle.
- Counting the centre in a “but not” question. The middle part of a figure is inside every shape, so it never fits a question that excludes one of them.

How the Venn Diagram Tests Work
- 25 questions per test, with a full question palette — answered, skipped, marked for review, not visited.
- Every form in every level — diagram choice, class matching, figure counting, numbered parts and word problems are mixed in each test.
- Diagrams drawn sharp on any screen — the options and figures are drawn on the page, so they stay clear on a phone.
- Optional 15-minute timer — with the clock to build exam speed, without it while you are still learning the chapter.
- Marking: +2 correct, −0.5 wrong, 0 unattempted — the same scheme as the real paper.
- Solutions, shortcut tricks and concept notes open after you submit — every pair relation is explained, every figure part is located, and every word problem is checked part by part.
- English and हिंदी, chosen at the start of every test.

How to Prepare Venn Diagram for SSC CGL
- Learn the eleven pictures above. Most questions are recognised in seconds once you know them.
- Always compare in pairs. Inside, overlapping or apart — write a quick symbol for each of the three pairs.
- Test an overlap with a real example. “A woman doctor” proves women and doctors share members; “a male doctor” proves neither is inside the other.
- In figures, mark IN and OUT first. Then add only the parts that satisfy both.
- For word problems, fill the diagram from the centre outwards. All three first, then the “two only” parts, then the “only one” parts.
- Do Level 1 untimed first, then with the 15-minute clock. Move to Level 2 once Level 1 is steady, and then check yourself on a previous year paper.
