SSC CGL Economics Questions 2026 (Indian Economy GK MCQ) — Free Chapter Wise Test in Hindi & English

Which tool of the RBI is the repo rate, how is GDP at factor cost different from GDP at market price, which Five-Year Plan followed the Mahalanobis model — SSC asks Economics as short questions on terms, institutions and dates, and the wrong options are always four rates, four committees or four plans that sound equally right. Practise 300 questions in 12 tests, from basic concepts and national income through agriculture, industry, taxation and banking to poverty, the external sector and international organisations. Every test is in English and Hindi, and every question has a 6–7 point solution that also covers the facts around it.

Economics in SSC is a terms-and-institutions chapter. The paper rarely asks you to work anything out; it asks what a term means, which body or committee did what, or when a policy or plan began. Repo rate, GDP deflator, fiscal deficit, MSP, NABARD, the 1991 reforms, SDRs — each is one line of theory turned into a question.

Marks are lost in three places. The first is look-alike terms: repo and bank rate, CRR and SLR, revenue, fiscal and primary deficit, GDP and GNP, factor cost and market price. The second is institutions and their heads: which body regulates what, which committee recommended what, and who chaired which Finance Commission. The third is plans and dates: the model and focus of each Five-Year Plan, bank nationalisation, the 1991 industrial policy and the change from Planning Commission to NITI Aayog. The tests here are built around exactly these three.

How Many Economics Questions Are Asked in SSC CGL?

Economics gives two or three of the 25 General Awareness questions in most SSC CGL Tier I shifts. CHSL, MTS and the Tier II General Awareness paper follow the same pattern. The topics below are the ones SSC returns to most often, roughly in order.

The three traps that cost the most marks

  • Repo or bank rate. The repo rate is what the RBI charges banks for short-term money against government securities; the bank rate is its rate for longer-term loans without such collateral. Since 2022 the Standing Deposit Facility, not the reverse repo, is the floor of the RBI’s policy corridor and the MSF is its ceiling.
  • Factor cost or market price. Market price = factor cost + indirect taxes − subsidies. GNP = GDP + net factor income from abroad, and ‘net’ always means after depreciation. SSC mixes these three adjustments in one question.
  • Which deficit. Revenue deficit = revenue expenditure − revenue receipts; fiscal deficit = total expenditure − (revenue receipts + non-debt capital receipts); primary deficit = fiscal deficit − interest payments. Fiscal deficit is the government’s total borrowing need.

Solved Examples — SSC CGL Economics

Q1. The Reserve Bank of India was nationalised in:
(a) 1935
(b) 1947
(c) 1949
(d) 1969
The RBI was set up on 1 April 1935 under the RBI Act, 1934, on the recommendation of the Hilton Young Commission, and was nationalised on 1 January 1949. 1969 is the year 14 major commercial banks were nationalised. Answer: (c)
Q2. Consider the following statements:
1. GDP at market prices = GDP at factor cost + net indirect taxes.
2. NNP = GNP − depreciation.
3. Transfer payments such as old-age pensions are included in national income.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
(a) 1 and 2 only
(b) 2 and 3 only
(c) 1 and 3 only
(d) 1, 2 and 3
Net indirect taxes (indirect taxes minus subsidies) are the gap between market price and factor cost, and ‘net’ always means after depreciation, so statements 1 and 2 are correct. Transfer payments are not payments for any goods or services produced, so they are left out of national income — statement 3 is wrong. Answer: (a)
Q3. Read the Assertion (A) and Reason (R) carefully.
Assertion (A): A cut in the repo rate by the RBI tends to make bank loans cheaper.
Reason (R): The repo rate is the rate at which the RBI lends short-term funds to commercial banks against government securities.
(a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A
(b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A
(c) A is true, but R is false
(d) A is false, but R is true
When the RBI lowers the repo rate, banks borrow from it more cheaply and pass part of the cut on to borrowers, so loans become cheaper and credit grows. R correctly describes the repo rate and explains A. Answer: (a)
Q4. भारत की पहली पंचवर्षीय योजना (1951–56) किस मॉडल पर आधारित थी?
(a) महालनोबिस मॉडल

How to Prepare Economics for SSC CGL

  1. Keep one formula sheet for national income and deficits. GDP, GNP, NDP and NNP; factor cost and market price; revenue, fiscal and primary deficit. Half a page answers a large share of SSC economics questions.
  2. Learn the RBI toolkit as a set. Repo, SDF, MSF and bank rate, CRR and SLR, open market operations — what each one is and which way it moves money supply. SSC asks the effect as often as the definition.
  3. Make a plans table. Plan – years – model or focus – one key event. Add the plan holiday, the rolling plan and NITI Aayog (2015) at the end.
  4. Read the solutions, not just the answer. Each solution here carries six or seven related facts — reading them is how 300 questions cover the whole chapter.
  5. Check yourself on real questions. One test a day keeps the earlier topics fresh while you move ahead, and the Economics previous year questions show exactly how SSC words them.
